Your French Adventure Holiday!
Our region offers countless activities for all ages and abilities from young kids to adrenalin junkies. The number one activity which we recommend all guests experience is kayaking through the gorges of the river Averyon. A fantastic day or half day out with stunning scenery, there are picnic spots, beach cafes and bars to rest and refuel. The limestone cliffs are a backdrop to world class rock climbing and via ferrata courses.
Cycling is a French passion and we are very lucky to be surrounded by fantastic road, gravel and mountain biking routes. New for 2020 we have launched Cycling Holidays at Le Camp. For serious cyclists we can arrange bike hire for your stay… road, mountain, hybrid or electric. Le Camp is on a hill, so for children we recommended starting and finishing at one of our local activity centres, which of course we can arrange for you. Many years the Tour de France passes through our region creating a real buzz. In July 2019 the route passes just a few miles from Le Camp!
Other popular activities include horse riding, Go-Ape style tree ropes and zip lines, hiking, trail running, paddle boarding, cave exploring.
French Culture & Sightseeing
If French culture is your thing, there are numerous ancient hilltop villages and towns. We are fortunate that the stunning, medieval town of St Antonin Noble Val is a just a 15 minute drive from Le Camp. Our village was awarded France’s third favourite village in 2015, and was also the setting for Steven Spielberg’s film “The Hundred Foot Journey” starring Helen Mirren. Here, you, can lose yourself in the maze of ancient alleys and canals, dine in a gorgeous restaurant overlooking the river, spend endless hours browsing in local artisans’ shops and independent boutiques or enjoy the award winning Sunday market – ranked the third best market in the whole of France!
Awarded France’s favourite village in 2014, Cordes Sur Ciel, a stunning, fairytale hilltop city, is only twenty minutes away. A little further is our favourite village, Najac, with it’s romantic ruined castle and summer night market. We are spoilt for choice with the chateaus of Penne and Bruniquel within 30 a minute drive too. Take a look at this aerial video of Chateau de Penne.
The Abbaye de Beaulieu-en-Rouerge is also just 10 minutes down the road. A site of national cultural importance hosting some of the best contemporary art in France. Take a look at their Summer 2023 installation by Johan Creten “Le cœur qui déborde” (the overflowing heart) in this promotional video.
Albi, our closest cathedral city, with its many boutiques and the world famous Toulouse-Lautrec museum, became a World Heritage site in 2010. Near to Le Camp, there are art galleries, spectacular ancient castles and a variety of prehistoric caves, with the world famous Pech Merle caves just over one hour’s drive away, where you can see original cave drawings.
We've returned to Le Camp every year for 8 years. We love it. With only 7 tents in the large wooded valley, there is space to unwind in peace and tranquillity. Our (now) teenage boys roam around the valley, jump in and out of the magical natural pool, play games and make friends with other children on the site - exactly as they did when they were 5 and 7 and we first came.
French Food & Drink
The Tarn et Garonne region is developing into the market garden of France. Nearby there are award winning fresh produce markets, many fine restaurants, homely bistros, seasonal food festivals, organic food projects… a foodie’s dream. Le Camp’s fully equipped Summer kitchen was designed to make the most of the region’s delicious bounty. Source the best ingredients at the local market and then return to camp to cook up a feast at your own large cooking station, stoke up one of the barbecues, or make homemade pizzas in our professional pizza oven.
For wine lovers, the rolling vinyards of Gaillac are just 30 minutes away. We arrange vinyards tours and tasting evenings, educational enough to take the kids too. We are also lucky to have a fantastic local brewery serving delicious IPAs.
On-site for Kids: Freedom, friendship and adventure!
Le Camp is a wonderful place for children to explore nature and make new friends in a safe environment. Hours of fun can be had chasing frogs around our natural swimming pool, diving in the deep end or paddling on the pebble beach. Let their imaginations run wild, building dens, hunting fossils and interacting with nature. There is table tennis, a petanque pitch and balls, art supplies, toys, board games and books for all ages. Our friendly dogs Alfie and Monty are a huge hit with children and love to play. You will struggle to tear the kids away at the end of your holiday.
On-site Relaxation for Grown Ups & Groups
We have designed Le Camp to enable you to relax in a beautiful environment and appreciate the simplicity of nature all around you – enjoy a carefree moment watching dragonflies hover across the pond or listen to owls hooting at night. Many guests tell us how many books they have managed to read during their stay as they were for once able to switch off from digital life and get lost in a story while the children play. For extra relaxation, we are able to recommend and book massage treatments, yoga, meditation, reiki, cookery courses, wine tasting and on-site catering including vegan and gluten free menus.
